Mumbai (India): The Somaiya Ayurvihar- Asian Institute of Oncology completed one year of functioning on the 20th August 2014. It is first such association in the country, where an Industrial Giant with extensive presence in educational field has brought in a collaborator-top professionals in Oncology and given them complete freedom to help create an institution of excellence – a path-breaking idea indeed. True to the faith imposed in us.
The Asian Institute of Oncology – a dream project of leading Oncology Consultants of the country was conceptualised and came into existence in 2002, at the Wellspring Clinic Piramal Complex, Parel as a day-care centre. The project was then shifted to S.L. Raheja Hospital, Mahim, and Mumbai in October 2002, and subsequently to the Somaiya Ayurvihar, Sion, Mumbai. The Bhoomi puja of Asian Institute of Oncology was held in collaboration with the Somaiya Group on 10th November, 2007, with commencement of operations in August 2013.
Dr Ramakant Deshpande, Director, AIO, said treatment here is affordable by 30% lesser charges compared to other hospitals in this regard. About 50% patients were coming here from Maharashtra, with the remaining from Mumbai and its suburbs, he said, adding that the AIO provided healthcare that is comparable or even better to world standard hospitals in cancer care. About 400 doctors from around Mumbai and Maharashtra attended the CME programme which was sponsored by the AIO. - thehealthsite
