The great city of London currently has something of a fascination with pedestrian bridges to span the waterway that bisects the city. The latest project is for a bridge that will connect Nine Elms to Pimlico in the Borough of Wandsworth. Currently, 87 proposals have been submitted: here are the craziest.
At the moment, the council is only releasing images of the proposed designs, leaving us in the dark about any material or cost details. Still, the bridge is meant to come in under $65 million. The design brief included an emphasis on accessibility to cyclists, hence the inclusion of ramps in many of the designs. The full gallery of 87 - from sensible renders to crazy back-of-the-napkin sketches - is over on the competition website. [NE Bridge Competition]
