World's tallest floating Christmas tree on display in Rio de Janeiro

RIO DE JANEIRO: The world's tallest floating Christmas tree has been put on display in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, amid fireworks and music.

The 278-foot tree, which weighs 542 tons, is being illuminated with 3.1 million lights on Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon.

Thousands of people went to the lagoon on Saturday night for the lighting ceremony for the tree, one of traditional Christmas attractions in Rio.

This year's theme "A Christmas of Lights", takes visitors through the history of light, starting with the glow of the stars and culminating with Christmas lights.

The tree, which will be lit every night until Jan 6, has been officially certified by Guinness World Records as the largest of its kind in the world. - IANS
