Heathrow flight death: 23-year-old woman dies on United Airlines plane to Newark Airport, New Jersey

A female traveller has died aboard a United Airlines flight from London Heathrow to Newark

A 23-YEAR-OLD woman who collapsed and died during a transatlantic flight from London was NOT contagious, it has been reported.

A 23-year-old Newark woman who died onboard a flight from London to Newark International Liberty Airport Monday night reportedly had pre-existing medical conditions, Port Authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo said.

The medical condition was not contagious, and no other passengers were at risk, two sources familiar with the matter said.

Doctors tried to save the woman, who was travelling on United Flight 115 alone, but she was pronounced dead on arrival at the east coast airport, reported NJ.com.

While the cause of her death is not yet known, it has been reported that the woman suffered from "pre-existing" medical problems.

The flight arrived in Newark around 9:50 Monday night.

Authorities have not yet released the woman's identity.

Preliminary examinations seems to indicate that the female passenger is understood to have "passed away from natural causes", said a Port Authority spokesperson.

Authorities are currently awaiting the results of an autopsy which they hope will uncover the cause of death.

United Airlines spokesperson Mary Ryan said: "United confirms that a passenger passed away on flight UA115 from London Heathrow to New York/Newark on December 1 2014.

"We offer our condolences to the passenger’s family," Mary Ryan, a spokesperson with United Airlines, said in an email. "For privacy reasons, it would not be appropriate for us to comment further." - express.co.uk
